MedExpress Urgent Care Continues Expansion with Affiliation in Tampa, FLOn November 22, MedExpress Urgent Care affiliated with Doctor’s Walk In Clinic (DWIC), in Tampa, FL. MedExpress is one of the nation’s leading urgent care companies with centers in four states. The addition of the DWIC group extends the total number of clinics to 35, exemplifying the Company’s commitment to partnerships that match the vision to be the nation’s best-in-class, full-service urgent care provider.
Dr. Stephen Dickey, DWIC’s founder, has been the driving force for DWIC since its inception. When asked why he created DWIC, Dr. Dickey said, “I was an ER physician for 10 years and saw a need for access to convenient health care. In the seventies and eighties, people had to make an appointment to see a doctor or go to the emergency room for immediate care. People wanted to see the doctor when they were symptomatic; not wait for days. Seeing patients without an appointment was the beginning of DWIC.”
“Philosophies, practices, leverage, and opportunity.” That’s how Dr. Dickey responded when asked why he chose Morgantown, West Virginia based MedExpress Urgent Care as the partner for DWIC’s future. “We [DWIC] want to remain the best and we’re confident that MedExpress provides the shared vision and infrastructure to help [DWIC] continue its tradition of exceptional patient care revolving around a culture of customer service.” Dr. Dickey will remain in a senior leadership role as DWIC and MedExpress will work together to expand access to affordable urgent care services in the greater Tampa region. “MedExpress will be the leader in Urgent care and DWIC is proud to join,” stated Dickey.
DWIC has eight walk-in urgent care clinics in the Tampa region with the newest center recently opening in New Tampa on November 3.
Urgent care is one of the fastest growing sectors in health care – its value and utility are being recognized as an appropriate fit to the gap that exists in the healthcare spectrum between primary care and emergency medicine. Simply defined, urgent care offers un-scheduled, walk-in health care for patients with illnesses or injuries that are not threatening to life or limb.
MedExpress is a private Company founded in 2001, in Morgantown, WV, and is the brainchild of four emergency medicine colleagues that sought to revolutionize the delivery of healthcare by committing to exceeding patient expectations in a welcoming environment. Detailed attention to the patient experience and the clinic environment has created a comforting atmosphere where convenience for today’s hectic schedules is accommodated through a proprietary patient flow model that yields impressive visit times well under an hour. The national average wait times in hospital emergency departments ranges from 2-6 hours. MedExpress treats patients of all ages, accepts most insurance, and is fully-staffed during all center hours including a physician, registered nurse, X-ray technologist, and other medical and customer service professionals. MedExpress has clinics in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and in the Palm Beach and Broward Counties in Florida.
